Charley Boorman
Charley Boorman is a modern-day adventurer, travel writer and entertainer.
His acting career started as a child. Being the son of the famous film director John Boorman, his career was already mapped out, appearing in the film “Deliverance” in 1972 and many others to follow. Charley played a young Mordred in Excalibur (1981), then in 1985 played a leading role in The Emerald Forest which was nominated for three BAFTA Awards. His further acting appearances included The Serpent’s Kiss (1997), on which he met Ewan McGregor and The Bunker (2001).
between Long Way Round and Long Way Down, Charley competed in the 2006 Dakar Rally. The event was produced and directed by Russ Malkin into the TV series Race to Dakar.
2008, Charley Boorman starred in By Any Means, which started in his hometown in County Wicklow, Ireland and ended in Sydney "by any means” of local transport available. In 2009, Charley then went on to star in Right to the Edge: Sydney to Tokyo By Any Means, for the BBC.
In 2011, Boorman presented a prime-time adventure series for the UK's Channel 5, Charley Boorman's Extreme Frontiers, another collaboration with Russ. Rather than a journey, Extreme Frontiers aimed to 'take in all four extremities of Canada'. The show spawned a follow-up series, Extreme Frontiers: South Africa.
Charley returned on Channel 5 at the end of 2013 for his next adventure, starting in Hawaii, through Alaska, the Eastern seaboard, Southern states, Gulf of Mexico, and finishing on the Pacific Coast.
